    swapping a m20b25 to a m20b27

    Anything else I am gonna have to change other then the ecu?

    I just bought a 325i with a cooked motor and the wreckers dont have any m20b25 just a ton of m20b27's. looking just to toss a m20b27 in for the winter and swap my m20b25 out of my other bmw once I get a different motor for it. just trying to get a winter car ready for winter before winter comes.

    To swap in an M20B27 in a car that came with an M20B25 you are probably going to have to:

    a) Swap in the transmission from an M20B27 as the transmission in the car probably doesn't have the holes in the bell housing needed for the timing reference sensors required by the M20B27.

    b) Convert the M20B27 to a budget stroker with an M20B25 head, intake, AFM, harness, DME, and CPS/bracket. In this case you don't need to swap transmissions.
    The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

      so buy a m20b27 long block and swap heads and everything else should stay the same?

        Basically. Just keep all the 325i stuff there and just swap in the 2.7 block. Unless the head of your 325i is what's cooked....

          You'll want to double-check that, though. My understanding is that just dropping an i head onto an e block will result in pretty low compression unless the e is an '88 (super-eta). There's plenty of info out there about this.

            The car has good compression just needs a water pump as water pump has alot of play in it

              Low compression blah blah blah, sick of hearing this lol (not aimed at you).

              Just swapping the head on my eta, it spanks i's, once the new diff is in (still has the 2.93), it will be all over.
