    swapping a bottom end

i have a semi-serious internal oil leak, and am going to go 2.7 while replacing the crank seals. i have some concerns though...i have a very strong 200k m20b25 that feels tight and can pull on guys with smaller diffs. i really don't want to fuck with a good thing, but the oil is coming out the clutch housing and the last thing i need is motor oil on my clutch components. will swapping an entire new bottom end mess up the tightness of my engine? after 200k, i'm sure the pistons have seated in a certain way, and i'm not sure if a whole new block with new cylinder walls is the best idea. what do you think?

Well if you are doing a rebuild do a rebuild. Hone the block, put new rings in and break it in properly.

Doing a 2.7 swap and lowering your compression seems pretty pointless to me unless you are going to turbo it. I mean take a look at some dyno sheets of "strokered" cars most of the time you aren't gaining much peak hp. I am by no means an expert on m20 strokers though.

If you have an oil leak from the bellhousing and you're sure it's engine oil not tranny oil then changing the rear main seal requires removing the flywheel and clutch to get to it. While you're in there you might as well do the tranny input shaft seal as well. How old is your clutch? Might be a good idea to think about that as well.

Remember most machine shops won't resurface dual mass flywheels and the flywheel bolts are one time use only stretch bolts.

Pull your pan, make sure it is a rear main. Pan gaskets can masquerade as a rear main leak.

I donno. It would be way easier to just drop the tranny and do the rear main seal. To do a bottom end swap youd be lookin at main and rod bearing stuff.

id say throw a seal in her and call it good until your ready to pull the motor and do a light refresh/stroker build you kno?

The motor would be yanked to do it, not from underneath. Clutch is a couple months old, tranny has around 130k. I believe it's single mass flywheel...i was weeding through some pretty unimpressive dyno numbers on the stroker...
