the 044 is external, it doesn't go in the tank like the walbro. the 040 is an in-tank version of the 044 but it doesn't fit through the E30 tank hole..

Last night I started it up again and it was just fine. I went for a 20 minute test drive and everything seemed to be good to go. With that in mind, I drove it to work this morning It did fine until I got to turned quickly onto the on-ramp and accelerated toward the freeway. The check engine light came on, the engine sputtered and wouldn’t accelerate like its supposed to so I pulled over. Waited to see what happened and got back on the freeway a few minutes later, hoping to hit the next exit and go the back way home. It was still acting up so I pulled onto the weigh station and parked it so that I could be easily towed. I opened the hood, checked for vacuum leaks, anything obvious and disconnected/reconnected the fpr->intake hose and it didn’t seem to change anything, leading me to think that there is a vacuum leak I haven’t found yet. At this point, the car seemed to be running fine, the check engine light went away and the engine seemed happy to run throughout the r3v range. With this in mind, I got back on the freeway and went on to work and the car ran flawlessly. Although it seems as if I'm not getting good mileage on this tank, it appears to be fine. I just hope it starts when my workday is over...
