    Head Q's

If you were taking a known to be running head off of a crashed car to install it on a car that had a snapped timing belt, would you really worry about getting it machined ?

Also if I don't get new headbolts because I have two sets of already used ones that seem fine is this awesome? I only ask because I already had the headgasket kit shipped out from pelican before I found out I should do the bolts while its off too.

Obviously trying to maneuver on a budget here to keep a DD up, but if the risk for throwing a gasket and possibly cracking the head in the future is just too high, then I'll get the thing machined.

No, but I would take a straight edge to it and check it for flatness anyways and just make sure that the mating surfaces are clean with a scotch brite pad. I have only done it once, didnt resurface it, no issues.

oh and I would use new head bolts. Used head bolts do not torque correctly when re-used. It might be a PITA to fork out some extra cash or wait for some to be delivered but it would also be a PITA to have a leaky headgasket in the next couple of months, causing you to re-do the whole job.

new bolts are like 20 bucks, and are a one use only thing. dont cheap out, or you will be doing it over again when the headgasket blows.

A used head could be warped or cracked, even if it came off a running engine. Take it to a shop and have it checked out before installation. The head bolts are torque to yield and must be replaced after one use.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Got everything as clean as I'm going to get it I think, waiting to hear back from a guy about his sedan with a blown HG before I button this all up to my black coupe tomorrow.

New head bolts, and HGKit from PelicanParts.com ftw
