Same result as an eta crank.

it will add 5lbs of rotational mass over the eta crank for no real benefit. it also usually costs 4-5x as much.

524td crank is forged steel, eta and i cranks are cast

and have you ever heard of an i or eta crank breaking?

It is funny I have always heard there was 5 pounds difference between the cranks, I weighed an E and TD on the same scale within minutes and there was 1 pound between them.

At some point I am going to get another TD crank and have it knife edged, that is one place I saved money on this build but plan to address later.

yes, it's forged rather than cast, but it's of no real benefit.

if you want forged and want to spend $300, get an S52 crank.

I wonder if I could just replace crank and rods or if I would need pistons as well. I am running TD crank,I rods, ross custom pistons.

you definitely need pistons with the S52 crank

Let's answer the question he asked:

a diesel crank in an M20 would be most likely used for a stroker build (a la Alpina B3 2.7)
If it's an "i" M20, you would need different pistons as well, to complete the build, you could use the stock M20 "i" rods though.

Keep in mind that the diesel crank has much rougher life than an eta crank. WAY high compression and large low rpm torque numbers (for an m20). My understanding is that the eta crank is good to 6000k or so.
