    Recommended timing belt replacement

    Hello,
How accurate is the recommended replacement interval? I'm buying an e30 this weekend with very reliable and complete maintenance records, showing a little less than 45,000 miles (on the belt of course, not the car). Should I replace it early or is it good for the (near) full 60? Also, it is considerably younger than the other interval mark of 4 years.

Do not fuck with timing belts. 3/36 is ideal, 4/50 is just barely.

Head is horribly interference and will bite you in the ass if you give it cause to.

Parts are cheap (under $100 and you are stylin'), and it is an easy 1 day job if you have any clue or skills whatsoever.

    Do it.

      Timing belts =

Seriously though, I pulled an e30 out of a swamp and it had a few rockers broken and every piston had clapped a valve. Serious business, timing belts are.

      That's why I don't do M20s.

Going with this advice, thank you for the prompt response! I'm an auto tech training so I do have access to the necessary clues and skills, not to mention a lift.

If you can do it yourself it's worth the peace of mind although it will be just fine to 60k.

cam seal, cam seal carrier (if you have been working on GMs, you will fucking MARVEL at the engineering) o ring, "half moons", might as well do the TB gasket and coolant gaskets on the TB too.

            Check your alternator bushings, too.
