    M42 tranny to M20?

Will the m42 transmission hook up to an m20? I've heard mixed opinions about this, but I have had no one tell me a definite answer.

yes, but why? you'll need custom trans mounts and driveshaft, and have to mix/max things like pressure plates, TOB's, clutch disks, flywheels, etc.

it's not known to be an especially strong transmission, either.

This is true. It was more of a debate thing between me and my father on whether it would mate up right. I understand it would be pointless not to just go with an m20 tranny because of all the work involved with getting everything lined up and the right parts. It was more of a question i guess. Thanks though.

yeah, it will fit. The M42 is basically an M50NV with 2 less cylinders - people use G260's on M50s all the time, and less commonly, ZF transmissions on M20s. M50s and M42s share the same bolt pattern, the M20 is slightly different but it's basically the same.

all I know is if you put the G260 on an M50, it bolts up but you can't use one or two of the holes (but not the structural ones)

Is the 240 lighter than the 260?

Down the road I am building a MPG turbo diesel e30, so the lighter the car the better.

yes I think so, but they're both pretty damn light. I was surprised when I picked up a G260 - it feels like about 40lbs?
