    HALP! heater core duct?

    how the fuck do you get this waffleswaffleswaffleswaffles off? Bentley says remove one screw and gently pry it off, which I did but I feel like I'm going to snap it in half...

    need to get to the heater core...

        It clips on up top iirc. You should be able to wiggle it off.

          Have you removed the fasteners at the flange where the aluminum tubes meet the matrix?

          If you don't separate the two you'll distort the tubes, which do not tolerate bending forces..

            Yeah at that point I did undo the fasteners. Everything is out now.

            The duct has to be pulled up, but it makes a bone-jarring sounds that plastic makes before it snaps. Sounds bad, but nothing broke...

                Yep, new h-core, water valve, o-rings etc. I'd be driving right now if I hadn't run a little short on coolant, gotta buy some more.

                  What parts did you buy and change?Only three things right?


                  HC,valve and 3 O rings.That sound about right?

                    Yep. You can also replace the rubber gasket thingie on the firewall, and the two aluminum tubes (I didn't... but I'm on a budget and wasn't even going to replace the h-core but I figured that if the other stuff leaked at 178k kms, then I might as well do it too - for the health of the car :)). Also, make sure you retain all of your screws and square nuts as you won't get any new hardware with your parts. It's not a fun job, but doesn't really require a lot of skill.
