No Oil getting to Cylinder head, Need Help.

So Today when driving home from work, my car starts to run like shit out of nowhere and I start to hear a loud valve train noise. Pulled over, took off oil cap while engine running, and no oil was sloshing around in the head like it normally does. Went home, changed oil. Nothing....but a nice blob of metal paste on my magnetic plug.

Took off valve cover. found a Broken rocker arm retaining clip to be the cause of the noise :/

Cleaned out oil tube, it wasnt clogged. did my best with a shitty little compressor and a can of carb cleaner spraying into the oil tube holes on the head.

Started it, not a drop out of ethier hole.

Oil Pressure light doesnt come on.New switch.

Recently "rebuilt" head at machine shop+Head Gasket

    two recent valve adjustments.

Have No idea how long my head hasnt had oil going to it. Just thought extra noisy valves was poor adjustment.

Possible thoughts were when the guy whole rebuilt my head cleaned it, he clogged some of the passageways.

If the oil pump pick up screen was clogged, could that be the cause?

Oil pump dead? Again...no pressure light.

    Thank you in advanced!

I would place bets on a bum oil pump. Clogged pickup screen will certainly do it, but unless someone got giddy with the RTV sealant and there are chunks of it floating around in the oil, then there shouldnt be anything causing a blockage.

If it makes you feel any better. When I was 16, I bought an MK2 Jetta coupe from a used car dealership for $500. On the drive home, the oil pump took a crap on me while I was on the freeway. I turned the car off and tried to coast it, but I may have only coasted 500 ft. I had to re-start it and got off the freeway, pulling into the nearest gas station asap (drove about 0.3 miles with the oil buzzer screaming, light flashing, and engine clacking). I checked the oil level, it was good. I knew it was certainly the oil pump so I just clacked it on home for another 1.5 miles or so anticipating replacing the engine the next weekend. I installed a new oil pump to see if it could get me by until I found an engine. Hmm, the noise seems to have gone away, the compression is still reasonable.... So I kept that engine in there, beat it up daily, drove it for 2 years, sold it to my friend (at 250k miles) who beat on it for a year, who sold it to my cousins friend, who beat on it for another few months , and then sold it to someone who installed a supercharger and within the week it was toast.

Yea i was contemplating replacing it while i was in there(Had the engine on a stand, tore it apart rebuilt it.). But i didnt ever really read anything about a large failure rate on M20 oil pumps and i didnt really want to spend another $150 on my b27. I admit, before i learned rtv was practially useless, i did use a bit on the pan gasket.

Im gonna drop the pan asap.

The oil pressure light doesn't turn on until the oil pressure is less that 7psi, So it won't tell much at all about oil pressure. You need to temporarily replace the switch with a gauge to see if the lubrication system is working properly.

Take a look at the head and make sure that the rocker shafts lock key is in place at the front of the head. If that key is missing the shafts can turn and block oil flow.

The key is part #6 on http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...66&hg=11&fg=25

The diagram shows the part upside down. It goes down into the head between the rocker shafts at the forward end of the head.

Yea the fucktard that rebuilt my head left that out. That and all of my rocker clips are facing in. So they've rotated. I just found a picture of my rebuilt head and there is no lock.

Guy should owe me a new fucking head. He's gonna get an angry phone call tomarrow .

At the least I'd expect the guy who rebuilt the head to furnish a full set of rockers and shafts and pay for the materials and labor to remove the head, replace the rockers and shafts, and re-install the head. That is probably all that needs to be done.
