    Car wont start!

I was gonna put a new head on my e30 so I found one. Had it cleaned and everything. Rebuilt motor from the head up. All new gaskets and all that. And I put everything back together. Put new oil and oil filter on it. Went to crank and it just wont start. It trys but it wont. Buddy says that the acid the machine shop cleans it with can make the valves stick so that would mean no compression. If I let the valves and everything sit in oil all night, should it start?

no, there is no way the the valves are sticking like that.

check your crank trigger and spark plug impulse connector, they could be swapped. As well as many other things. Need to check for spark, fuel, etc first and provide more details.

Well, if it does have spark and fuel, try unplugging the AFM. If the no start situation is the same as before, I'll bet you've found your problem.

The Air Flow Meter (AFM) uses a combination of a sprung door and an air temp sensor to measure the mass of air entering the engine at any given time. See attached picture (grabbed from a Google search)...

So unplug it and try to start it? And if no start then there is something wrong with the plug? Will it need to be replaced?

Yeah. Try starting it with the AFM plugged in, and make note of how it tries to start. Then, unplug it and try to start it. If the no start situation is exactly the same, the AFM might be your problem.

Not necessarily, it still might be something else. Also, the car WILL NOT start without the AFM plugged in, it's one of the two major inputs to the ECU. The way my thinking goes, if the no start stays the same without the AFM, that might be your problem. This is in no way a definitive test.

Maybe. Used ones aren't expensive or rare. New ones are, like, $400+.
