fuel injector o-rings

Car is: 1991 325i

Hey guys so I'm pretty sure I have a vacuum leak located at the fuel injector seals/orings. I hear a hissing sound in this area when the engine is idling and when I spray the 2 injectors closest to the firewall with carb cleaner the engine revs up a tiny bit. The car has a pretty crappy idle and the engine shakes.

I was about to pull the fuel rail and change the seals/orings when I noticed something while looking at my spare set of injectors (I bought some used cores for cheap in case I ever wanted to get some rebuilt). To remove the seal/oring you need to remove the plastic pintle caps. Apparently this is difficult to do without breaking them.

Any ideas on how to do this properly, do rebuilders have special tools for this?



Edit: I should add that removing the old oring is easy, just pry it up with a pick-like tool and cut it off with a box cutter, my problem is more along the lines of putting a new one on.

Buy new pintle caps and the plastic retaining ring and just anticipate breaking them. I have never had good luck keeping them intact.

hmmm... this is what the pelican parts guide (which are usually quite good) said as well. But IT'S WRONG!

I just came back from a local parts store and bought a "fuel rail seal" kit for my car. It has 12 new o-rings and a little plastic cone thing. I guess what you're supposed to do is cut the old one off, and roll the new one over the pintle caps (it stretches a little). I just tried it on my spare injector and it worked. No need to remove the pintle caps if all you want to do is change the o rings.

I looked for over an hour on the internet and didn't find anything about this common sense method. lol

do you have a link where i can buy a pintle caps or a seal kit? i have the same problem. i broke the cap and i only have the o-rings? i check pelican, bavauto and turner but couldn't find any.

have you considered your intake manifold gasket? I sprayed 2 different injectors and thought it was the same issue...turned out to be the intake manifold gasket was leaking real bad and was making a terrible hiss as well

start the car, disconnect only the injector u think is leaking, if there is no change in the way the engine is running then thats ur leak, better to try that before spending some cash,

Ive been looking for lb injector in the jyard, i have like 6 sets of 19lb injectors by mistake, when i finally got the injectors i wanted they didn't have any o rings on then so i just replaced them with the ones of the junk yard injectors, all came right off and seal just fine, all though its better to take them off then installing them, that's a bitch, so u might be able to go find a quick spare one and see what happens when u do the easy replacement,

this is just my experiences, idk if it will help, but good luck
