    Breakup under power?

Recently got an 85 325e and it had it's issues like all e30's do but the one I'm still working on is this stupid missfire. It idles fine and if you just get on it super smooth it drives fine but as soon as you go to power anything, it breaks up and it feels like it dies on a cylinder. I changed the cap, wires, and plugs and still nothing. It runs the hell of a lot better but still does it's missfire under load. My next step is doing a valve adjustment(probably due for one anyways) and seeing if that helps. Any thoughts?

test the coil with ohm meter? primary and secondary coil. sounds like the coil is breaking up.

Replaced the coil, cap, rotor and plugs and wires, I'm thinking it's gunna be a clogged up fuel filter, or possibly a bad pump

I've gone through a handful of possibilities and the only thing I can think of is a fuel pressure problem, going to put some fuel injector cleaner in it and check the pump and make sure it's not damaged or warn out.

Yeah your on the right track with a fuel filter. Fuel filters are a big cause of wot problems. Its also easy and cheap.

No change from the fuel filter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and a valve adjustment. Anything else I should check?

Ive been fighting this random gremlin on mine too. I thought I fixed it the other day but it reared its head again. Doing a search on the web will tell you that its a common issue and yet I cant find anyone that posts how they fixed it except for all the things youve listed and that Ive done as well. Mine is random enough that I cant recreate it in the driveway. I want the magic solution lol

Well atleast I'm not alone in this boat, and as far as the valve cover, already did an adjustment an oil change too it the other day and it looked to be in good shape. Bo broken rockers, or bad keepers, and it was relatively clean(as clean as I'd expect a 26 year old valve train to be). But I wish you luck with yours and I'll keep you posted on any changes.

You may have a loose wire/connection or ground somewhere. Definitely not a mechanical issue.

I'm going to try a set of injectors and see if that works it out, i got an extra pair laying around .
