L-Jet to Motronic; or Motronic to L-jet?

    have a puzzle @ hand.

My eta is a 04/87 build, seems to have a crank sensor at front of engine but if it has the bellhousing crank position sensor I can re-use my flywheel and transmission. If it does not, I could install the Eta front timing cover and pulsation damper for crank signal

Have a replacement Powerplant for my ETA, but its from an e30 Euro 323i; Running L-Jetronic. I have the entire L-Jet wiring loom and ECU, but I'm sure its missing misc electronic items. It seems to have everything besides the round capacitor for spark, can I use my e30 unit (I can re-wire it for L-jet connector if needed)

Has anyone come across a guide to convert an e30 L-jet car to a Motronic?
OR how to convert the Motronic car to L-jet? I'm assuming just adapt the round connector to the chassis?

IF I lock the vacuum retarded Dizzy by blocking vacuum port to make it not retard will the Motronic ECU should just digitally retard timing ?

Has anyone successfully used a L-Jet Dizzy setup with Motronic, or bolted on the Motronic Rotor on the 323i engine?

I could transplant the entire ETA cap/rotor setup and sensors (and motronic harness+eta everything and use the new longmotor and intake/throttle; I can change to megasquirt when the powerplant is running to tune

any insight would be great. thanks!

peerless used a dizzy with motronic.

With your car i would either run Motronic 1.3 or leave it ljet for now.

is it a 2.7 or just a 2.3? caues the 2.3 isnt really a powerplant.. less it was some sort of alpina/hartge job

Engine is an "alpina west" H&B Hardy and beck; USA edition 180hp/175lb-ft

885 head with euro cam reground at engine specialties local land headwork

2.7 shortblock with high compression pistons 10.5:1
      Euro intake manifold and throttle
      Long tube H&B headers.

Timing stock should be 19 deg, this is set at 21 per notes from 1987 on.

I will be visiting both former h&b partners as they are both local to me to figure out historical details.

I'd run it on Motronic 1.3, it just bolts on.

ya? I've only found E21 -> e30 m20 swaps with wiring in the motronic,

My e30 eta is motronic as its a USA model; Can I just move over the entire ETA motronic and all its sensors/injectors over to this L-Jet motor?

Motor Leaksdown pretty good, and I am tempted to run it before tearing down as it did come from a recently running car with a folder of service records.

          I understand my ETA mapping will be pretty off; I was planning on obtaining a Megasquirt box for ETA harness and just mapping to match this High compression cammed M20 ;

          I'm guessing this motor would be pretty similar to a superETA+cam and 325i everything (common 327i whatever);

I'm guessing there will be decent maps to start with on megasquirt forums?

Has anyone in AUS done a Motronic to L-jet conversion on an E30?

I'm guessing just need to re-wire the square body plug of the L-jet ecu to the round connector to plug into my e30 body?

this L-jet is supposedly tuned to the engine setup; but how do i tell?

ign timing stock is supposed to be 19 deg, this has 21deg as specs in tech notes since 1986, also notes say that the vacuum advance/retard has
been disabled intentionally; Is this common for L-jet m20's?

Also; I am missing ONE part of the L-jet electronics; I don't have the round coil/capaciter thing that the dizzy is fed from; Can I interchange my motronic coil/capaciter thing?

sorry; I am a modern efi guy learning history!

is yours a seta or an eta? I don't know that the benefits of Motronic 1.0 (eta) are there over L-jet. I mean, it's better, but it's still overly complicated, and how are you going to tune it? however, yes you could bolt it on.

seta's use Motronic 1.1/1.3 harnesses so if that's what you got then it's a no brainer. all you'd need is a 173 ecu and some sort of chip.

are L-jet parts avail in usa? I have never seen these electronics on a stateside car, but perhaps I haven't looked hard enough.

my car is a 04/87; it has 7 injectors so I believe Normal ETA.

perhaps late model normal eta with front cam sensor; the transmission bell does not seem to have 2 sensors bolted to it.

I would tune this with megasquirt if keeping the original car wiring; I know it is working and good and would rather not risk fire (literally) with a mystery secondhand harness if possible lol

if the Motronic 1.0 can bolt on and run the motor; it would be an improvement over the current engine in the car- I would be willing to wire in a megasquirt from motronic 1.1-1.3 car and change the injector settings or re-wire injectors to run proper power.

I have wired a S54 into my e36M prior, electronics merger does not scare me if in steps; if jumping into a mess of un-knowns and un-proven variables............................. I am SCARED.

This L-jet harness also had a Valentine device and o2 meter wired right before ECU, I don't have that module and and the wiring looks sketchy so I may have to un-do it - I have the full diagram for it but not the box.

(since I put doubts of me finding some aftermarket mystery black electronics box from 1985 lol)

Megasquirt should b adaptable for a motronic 1.0 harness right?

Motronic 1.3 harness swap would be very easy, especially if you're going to do MS anyway. the only real thing it's missing is a check engine light, that you won't be using.
