    i head swap help

so i am finally done swapping everything from the i into my e vehicle just stumped on one last thing. The engine harness from the i has two connectors right next to the ecu plug. which are these.
And then i have this connector on the chassis side harness.
Now i believe this is for the ignition or something like that and just want to know which of the engine loom wires go to the chassis side. the vehicle is an 86 325e and the engine harness is from a 90 325i. thanks.

The white body side plug provides the START signal to the DME, which tells the DME to run, and routes the tach and econometer signals from the DME to the cluster. Your late model harness won't have a matching connector because it routes those signals via C101. The easiest fix is to graft the matching connector from the old harness to the late model harness.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

So I got it turned on right now and it turned on like a charm. But the tach don't work. I think it's the cluster since the vehicle that it was on was parked for several years. Gonna swap it out and hope that works. Thanks to all for helping me get this thing up and running.

Bad signal. Th tach should be the black wire in your glove-box and needs to go to the black wire on the ECU side (test continuity to pin #6 on the DME connector). Your tach will be useless above 5k RPM, keep that in mind.

Just an FYI to you and future swappers... If you had used an 87 M20B25 harness everything would have plugged in and worked perfectly including the tach.

Not true. I have found there are 2 different harnesses, one doesn't play nice with the 173dme and needs to stay 153, otherwise you will get 12v at the TPS instead of 5v.

Also, the earlier harnesses don't have the convenient (and sometimes not convenient, lol) injector harness connector for ease of inj swaps.

Either way, how hard is it to tap 2 wires?

Hmm, I've yet to see this first hand and I've done i swaps in 4 early models or so.

Sorry for the delay people but I got it working. Seems that the crimping I had done was not good enough. But it works now. Thanks to all.
