    325e please help me

I am experiencing a sudden power loss in my 1984 325e (as in acceleration/engine power). The car loses acceleration power and than kicks rite back on with full power...It almost feels as if its starving for fuel or air...Today i tested to see if I was getting power to the fuel pump and fuel pump relay both test were ok. I listened to see if i could hear the fuel pump turn on but i heard nothing...Fuel pump replay was fine as well as fuse's. I am thinking its a bad afm or maybe the fuel pump regulator? Wondering if you have any opinions or other test i should run before trying to find a used AFM to buy on here. Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated.
I also have recently replaced distributor cap, rotor, ignition wires, spark plugs and fuel filter.

    Thank you for your time

Be aware that the fule pumps only run when the DME sees timing data from a rotating engine. Unless the high pressure pump is bad you won't hear it above the starter or engine.

This could be a fuel system problem, a bad AFM, bad CPS, bad fusible link or a even a bad DME. Clipping a fuel gage to a windshield wiper will tell if it is a fuel system problem. The other possibilities are best diagnosed by part swaps.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

you could unplug the 02sensor for kicks, theyll cause some minor sputtering but what your describing sounds more serious, worth a shot though

Could this also cause a no start/no spark issue? The car was running great and then started acting up. Wouldn't start in the morning but would in the afternoon. Now won't start at all. Getting really frustrated.

I may be experiencing the same thing except mine doesn't sputter. Moreso, just feels like a loss of power.

              Sorry to sort of thread-jack:

I'm ordering the parts right now for an ignition tune-up for the purpose of having 300+ miles and...

Recently, my car is died on me while either pulling out of a parking lot or at a stop sign. Then it would start but just drop idle immediately and die. Kept the car running today, came back to it and it had died. I was wondering about the ICV and any sensors. ICV because sometimes the idle isn't exactly smooth.

That makes me think of intake leaks. Have a shop run a smoke test.

OP along with Jlevie's suggestion about the fuel pressure gauge, I did this myself as well, you may want to pull a sparkplug or 2, and see if they're wet with fuel. My 84 eta had similar problems, the pressure gauge was indicating a fuel delivery fluctuation. I pulled the sparkplugs and found wet plugs. Turns out I had a bunk DME, an 021, dropped in an 027 which cured the problem after changing literally everything else. Something to keep in mind.

Same thing was happening in my original motor. Its your ignition. Check coil, wires, cap and plugs. I replaced all that and it was all betta. ;)

I dont know why i said the car starts to sputter in my original post...Was probably thinking of my 89 325i that did that turns out with that car it was a lose fuel pump relay....On this car it just losses acceleration power and than kicks back on full power. Sorry for the misinformation and thanks for the responses.

I was thinking a bad ecu...That might be the first thing I swap out. Will check the plugs tomorrow.
