    Installing Spark Plug question

    Easy enough, right? Well, just to make sure, I've attached a picture of a new vs old spark plug. As you can see, the new ones have this thick conductor on the top and looks like it screws on.....all the old ones don't, which I'm guess means they are all stuck in the ignition wires.....unless, I'm supposed to remove these from all the new spark plugs.
    Please someone confirm either way which is correct.

    JK, take some pliers and unscrew the terminal ( shiny end piece) and you are good to go. Don't worry, we have all been there 8)

      If all the old plugs have resistors, and you can unscrew the resistor caps, then do so.
      On my car some of the wires were for resistor plugs and some were not... Irritating.
      An irritation, on the E30 M3 is that different brand plugs have different shaped resistor caps.
      Some plugs have resistor caps that are not removable.
      Since I drive older cars, I save resistor caps if they are removable.

        Well, now I have to pull all the plugs back out....but at least I dont need new wires like I was dreading!

              I just changed my spark plugs yesterday and just twist off the cap and your good to go haha.

                they are not resistor caps, they are just ends for standard plug wires. BMW likes to use the very tiny (and annoying) plug leads instead of the standard stuff everyone else uses.

                  Gap the plugs to .35 before putting them in. They don't come pre-gapped.

                    They should just come off but...the last ones I got from Bavauto were the same part number as the Bosch ones I took out except they said made in Russia and the cap had a dimple in it to crimp it on. Thats the first time Ive had to use vise grips on a spark plug lol.

                      I learned about the whole unscrewing the cap on spark plugs from my E30. I felt like I was screwed too, lol.

                        These also have a dimple in them.....I'll get the vice grips out and get to work.
