If you can't get a car to pass emissions with a normal compression ratio and a mild cam, there's something wrong. This is why I was telling you to start reading. Smog comes down to tuning and nothing more. As long as you have a motor that isn't running a 360 degree cam and 25:1 compression ratio you shouldn't have much of an issue. As I mentioned, just running 17lb injectors doesn't mean you will pass smog because it's lean. Your concept of passing smog is on the completely wrong foundation.

http://www.megamanual.com/ms2/tune.htm#emissions read this and then you'll get a vague idea. You should probably read it twice or thrice, it is pretty dense material.

ha ha, I love you. Are you free right now? Can you come over and have a beer. I just got a new case of red strip..
We can get tippsy and half naked in my garage than you can brake out the smog info you got and show me how to tune my stock motronics and show me were the usb plugs into my 173 chip

But really, I'm just woundering if the incease in displacement will push me out side of the smog limits

I myself am almost to dense to read as well, so a simple: Yes your fine, or
No dumbass sell your car and walk. Is all I'm looking for.. thanks:mrgreen:

basically, you need to tune for it, plain and simple. You might be able to pass smog without tuning, but it depends how lenient they are. On that page there is a table of modifications for tuning to adjust one way or another for emissions -- examples like advancing/retarding timing and enriching and leaning the mixture.

get yourself and EEPROM and I'm sure we can figure out how to plug a USB into a 173 dme. ;)

Generally a more efficient motor will pass even better. We shut the EGR off when we tune GM cars and they still pass.

As mentioned the overlap of the cam will get it closer to not passing, but a good cat should help.

When there was emissions in FL guys used to drill tiny holes in the top of the muffler or cat so fresh air was drawn in to help. Lean won't do it either, they are probably looking for all kinds of gasses, not just unburned fuel, nox etc.
