Why did my e30 just die goin down the road.

I was leaving school and my car just all of sudden died. Pulled over and it would try to start but it just wouldn't start. I tried it to the point where the battery is dead I just put a new fuel pump on it yesterday and cleaned my tank out and everything. Im not sure what the problem is. Any ideas?

    First things to check:

    Does it have spark?

    Is it getting air?

    Is it getting fuel?

Connections on FP tight? Maybe it came loose?

I would start confirming the S/A/F first. Then go from there. Just cause you did A doesn't mean A is going to be the problem.

But what would make it all of a sudden just die...

        could be 1000 things.

besides what slammingE28 said, it could be a broken timing belt (got any records on when it was done last??), a bad relay (fuel pump or main), etc etc....

Just hope it wasnt' the timing belt, unless you're looking to pull the head just for fun...

I had a similar problem with my car a couple of months ago. I was driving down the highway and after about 40 miles or so it died. I was able to get off the highway and check things. I did replace the fuel pump with a 255lph pump. It was running fine. I didn't have time to check it out so I had a friend check it out at his shop. After running a while he found that the fuel pump relay and the power supply relay for the ecm was getting hot. He replaced both relays and I haven't had a problem since.

There is no fuel gettin to the motor. The fuel pump isn't workin. I just replaced the pump yesterday. Im not sure how to check the pump relay...

there are 3 relays next to your fuse box by your driver side fender. 5 prong is your main relay that controls everything. the 4 prongs are your fuel pump relay and something else that completely escapes my mind.
