    Weird inconsistent problems

So last night while driving my car suddenly wouldn't rev past 3500rpm. It acted like it was hitting the rev limiter. It idled fine. Pulled like normal to 3500 rpm. Then would stumble and act like it was on the rev limiter. The next time I started the car it would now rev to 4000 rpm. And same story. Then today, it ran fine but would miss at 5500rpm and then pull great after that. Then up until about 5 mins ago, it now hits the rev limiter at 5000rpm. The car ran great yesterday morning. It has been raining a lot here lately so I don't know if the extra moisture has any effect on it? I've been searching for the last couple hours as well as reading the bentley. I am stumped.

    Details on the car..
    88 325i.
    recent valve adjustment <5000 miles.
    stock motor.
These parts have been replace in the last 15,000 miles
    Distributor cap and rotor
    Plug wires
    fuel pump
    coolant temp sensor
    and i'm sure forgetting others.

Any help would be great! Thanks!

I'm hoping spark plugs were one of the things you were forgetting. Make sure you replace them with Bosch or ngk copper core plugs. I had a bad problem just like yours and it turned out the previous owner had installed Bosch platinum 4 plugs.

    Check and let us know.

I did spark plugs when I did the valve adjustment. Used NKG's. I talked to the PO today (good friend and ex-bmw mechanic) and he was telling me a similar thing happened to him. I guess there is a harness where the crank position sensor, cam sensor and a couple others connect under the intake manifold on the drivers side, that when it gets wet it would do that. And we had more rain that usual this past week. Has anyone else heard of or had a similar issue with this?

Mine did this, always misfired at different points and mostly when it was moist out. Changed plugs wires cap rotor and coil and nothing changedu, turns out it was either cps or connections in the fuse box because i did both at the same time and now it runs perfect.
