everytime it overheats i block test it because im paranoid like that. i usually catch it really fast and pull over (never venture far from home lol)

actually my auxiliary does not come on but i figured that wasnt the issue....

heres HOW IT OVERHEATS....i will park the car running fine, hop in it the next day and let it warm up. usually to the bottom of the 1/4 mark, then drive it..... then i notice it runs a little hotter on the gauge (hardly even noticable) cruising at freeway speed it will sit just at the top of 1/4,,,,and once i stop it will climb slowly to the 3/4 mark, and really slowly creep to the red zone.

pop the hood and see a good stream of coolant coming from the overflow tank.

You need to do a full chemical flush. Not only the cooling system but the oiling system.
People forget it's not just for luberocating but cooling as well.. If you have a blockage some wear, or anywear you'll keep having a problem no matter how much shit you swap out..
Also pull the oil filter housing and remove the oil cooler themo plug. This will allow your oil cooler to run all the time.

If none of this or any of the suggestions that everybody else offers up work
you'll need to pull the head and check your headgasket.. ugh

      Good luck..

no thermostat doesn't cause a car to overheat. i bet the motor is blown, plus you didn't fixed anything, you just shortcut around it.

It over heats when he's stopped, after driving a bit. The aux fan is going to help a lot, I promise you its going to make a difference. Also if you havent changed your fan clutch do it.

My m50 is on all water, never tried to "bleed" it. And my temp gauge doesnt even work, and I have no issues, nor do i worry about it. But best of luck, i dont miss my m20 at all.
hahahaha! i hope this is sarcasm. if not, very funny and pathetic.

I got upset when reading this....too many people just swap out a perfectly fine motor...all because they cant find the little reason it wont idle/cool right

get an electric fan? clutch ones are so bad and even new ones can be already broken due to bad storage, and oil leaking out. should cost the same as a new clutch fan-to swap an electric one in.(or at least pretty close)

some really, really stupid replies in this thread. :(

I would consider having the radiator flushed, or just replace it.. a new behr or nissens isn't that expensive. another thought is the waterpump - when's the last time it was done?

the temp shouldn't climb while you're moving, that points to the fan clutch or A/C fan having nothing to do with it. either the radiator is blocked or the waterpump is dead.

Considering he didn't specify at first, Nando, we gave him the best advice we could. if he said it overheats mostly while driving then I would have suggested waterpump, radiator, or purging the system for a possible hot air pocket in the block. on the first page he said it creeps at highway speed and the climbs to the 3/4 mark once he's at a stop. not everyone here is giving stupid advice. he hasnt even checked the fan so as stated in a previous post, he needs to make sure it is operating before throwing money at a defective or broken part. it take less than five minutes to turn the car on, press the AC button, and check continuity in the wiring if it's not operational.

I'm interested in the verdict. I would put money on it being the radiator.
