i searched and i can't find a photo of eta tdc, it appears on the bottom end its the same but the top end im not so sure about so does anyone have photos of that?

also found a broken head bolt :/ thinking about just buying a whole nother m20 :/ shitty.

i put this in the general because i'd like it to be answered soon since i have a friend over and were just about to pull the head.....
i understand putting things in there subsection but when you need an answer quick i don't think there's anything wrong with posting it in general.

tdc is when the crank pulley is matched with its notch and the cam gear is matched with its notch. if only the crank matches and not the cam then keep cranking till both match up.





BTW i literally typed m20 tdc into google and pulled those images off the first page result.

mine don't look the same on the top end, i do not have any indication on that area, there is an arrow on the inside of the crankshaft hub, but nothing to match it to....

if you're missing the lower timing cover it will prove very difficult.

also, crank turns twice the cam...just keep that in mind.

To answer your question (now that it's posted in the right subforum) the timing mark is on the back of the cam gear in some etas. I had the same concern when I did my TB the first time.

You'll see the arrow at the front, but it correlates to a small indentation on the back of the gear.

top end = camshaft

bottom end = crankshaft


So, which one are you having trouble with?

They (m20's) are all about the same. Even with the crank pulley off, you should still be able to line things up with no problem- there's a V-notch in the nose of the crank that should line up with the mark.
