Sounds like way to much valve clearance. Adjust at the lobes, you may have worn rockers/ eccentrics. Or your last adjustment had a mishap. The more you drive like that, it will wear faster. GLsigpic

take off your valve cover and make sure none of the rockers have slipped out of the guides. happened to my buddy's car, sounded very similar.1989 325is / 2.7, 274 cam, e30 M3 5-lug
