Engine code location on block?

just bought my 87 325 and seems that engine has been swapped out sometime in its life. how do i find out if this was the original engine? where is the engine code located on the block? My lexus is easy with a big "2JZ-GE" right in front.. hehe

i think i was swapped for a earlier year 2.7l.. because i had to replace the valve cover vent hose but the number i got off the hose wasn't for my vin number thus thinking it was swapped.. i just wanna know what Im working with is all...btw ill finally check the intake side
