    building a 2.7i for boost!

ok so i have an eta bare block, yes only the block. my plan for that is new bearings, seals, piston rings, resurfacing and getting o-ringed.

picking up a lower mileage m20 head. plan with this is to have everything resurfaced, new seals/valve seals, new rockers, a 27x-28x cam.

i will likely use metric blue head studs. will tap the block rather than the oil pan.

now im not really sure how much boost the bottom end can handle, im really wanting to run over 15# of boost and would be happy with anything over 320-340whp.

already rented a place to build this motor. but i do have questions.

at what point do you need forged internals?
what accesories from the i motor can be used on the eta block? like power steering, alternator, motor arms, ect?

if im over looking anything let me know, if you have any suggestions let me know, if you're jelly then tell pedobear!

first off, if you start at 15psi you're going to blow something up. Start at a reasonable psi (8-10) ESPECIALLY since this is your fist turbo build and engine build.

Metric blues suck, they aren't head bolts. Use either stock or OEM.

All of the accessories are the same between eta and b25's.

    What turbo, manifold, management, etc??

well my goal is get it to 15psi, not just turn key first day and run that lol.

will run megasquirt(whodwho). gonna hit up germaneningeering for a turbo, or blueaposa, and either a 666fab or see what blunttech has for a manifold(unless i see something of quality in the FS section).

what can the stock(but refreshed) internals of the e block handle?

good to hear that all the accessories are direct swap, will make everything a lot easier lol.

There are people running 22-24psi on stock internals but that might be pushing it. I would say you are safe at anything under 20psi. You sound like you got the basics down, read up on E30tech too and you should be fine.

Metric Blues work fine for 15psi, just make sure to get those bolt holes extra clean, (solvent to dissolve oils, vacuum/compressed air for liquid removal) and use moly lube/arp lube to install in a 3-step torque pattern, ending with 68-70lbs of torque; otherwise you will hydraulically crack the block around the bolt holes. O-Ring the block and you will have no problems with the stock headgasket. The rods are capable of 4-500hp but if you experience any det at that level, they will bend. Your tune has to be rock solid.

              yes 885 head lol!

thanks derek, really helped! i will be trying to push past 15psi, so the arp head studs are gonna be budgeted in...

head is going to machine shop tomorrow for resurfacing and cleaning, still need to pick up the block and start ordering the rebuild things!

              excited!

What injectors are you going to use? I am currently researching the same build. For me 15psi on stock stuff is awesome. A friend keeps recommending me using a turbo from a diesel truck.

Run a Holset HX35 like everyone else on here. They are found on Dodge Diesels (2500/3500 w/cummins)

Yeah Holset H1C or HX35 is a good option. Cheap, easy to rebuild, last forever.

either 30 something or 40 something injectors.
turbo is up in the air, maybe a knock of garret gt30 or a holset would be good...

i'll start another thread when i can actually take pics and document better, but lets just use this for q and a

Dont use knockoff holsets... used good condition REAL holsets are like $250, that's pretty cheap

Two questions, first is how much "ring should be exposed when I o ring the block and second will there be a break in period after the rebuild? I know with a new car off the lot it's 1-5k or first service. Will that be the same after everything is new and resurfaced?

seriously, there is a whole thread devoted to o-ringing.

and search the interwebs for break in periods.
