    Fan Clutch Always Engaged?

Hey Guys- So while I was home visiting for Christmas, my upper radiator hose somehow found its way into the fan and got diced up. Luckily it happened at my dad's place, and he happens to own something like five e30 parts cars. I replaced the hose, but the fan seems to engaged on all of the time and is putting an incredible amount of load on the engine. It is also noisy. The fan doesn't appear to be bent, because it isn't hitting anything. Is something wrong with the clutch? I know most clutches don't engage when they go bad, but this appears to be the opposite.

    Thanks

yeah it is bad. when it stays hooked up all the time it makes a whiring noise upon acceleration. change the fan clutch and you should be fine.

it should. an e30 on a hot day, idling, with no fan is an e30 due for a head gasket replacement.

the fan clutch is not an on/off deal. it has a clutch so it can modulate it's rpms.

it allways runs, but when its "idling" it wont destroy a bit of a newspaper rolled up (maybe like 10 sheets). but if its engaged it will give it a flogging.

Yes this. Bearings are more than capable of seizing up. its great if your cars runs warm......
