    broken timing belt

Slow speed break - ~20mph. All I remember is that the engine just stopped running and the dash was all lit up like a drunk on New Years Eve.

Sucks because I had received the replacement kit just over a week prior to the break.

What I would like help with is what is the easiest way to determine the extent of damage. I have seen info on leakdown tests, but those all seem to recommend operating tempurature, which I will not be able to achieve with the car in its current state.

Thanks in advance for the help!

For what you are trying to figure out , a cold leakdown is fine.

That being said, you bent valves at least so the head is coming off for repair/ further inspection anyway.

Agreed! If the car was in gear and moving when the belt broke there are, at the least, bent valves.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Pull the head and take it to a machine shop. Have the bent valves replaced, have it checked for cracks, and have it resurfaced.

I broke a timing belt on start up and it snapped an exhaust valve. You'll definitely be pulling the whole head off. Don't even worry about preliminary leak down test, just pull the whole head.

new head bolts, new head gasket set.

I just tore down one of my m20 heads that was on a car of mine; I had the pedal buried when I broke my belt.
all 6 exhaust valves and 5 intake valves were bent. Tossing the rockers and cam as half the rockers are showing wear along with some cam lobes.
I guess expected after 325k. (kilometers)
