    Steel Oil Pan Found



    will this work on our cars?

    I have a steel oil pan I found. not sure where it came from. looks like that but with a big dent. I assume it works and holds up to damage better

      Yes it'll work.

      Is it better then cast aluminum? Well it won't shatter...but it will transfer alot of shock into your engine/car when you hit something hard. Also doesn't move heat as well.

          E21 323s had a steel oil pan that looks just like that.

            The oe steel oil pans don't have a provision for the oil level sensor like the e30 pans do.

                Oil lever sensor mounts from the top, not bottom.

                  The hole in the bottom is for a oil level sensor, just not the e30 one.





                  could probably make it work, maybe cut/splice the e30 plug on? They look similar, but different part numbers.

                    I just picked up (for a bottle of Jack Daniels) what looks to be SuperETA engine (with only 80k) from an E28 that has the steel pan. The oil level sensor is quite obvious in the bottom of the pan and is different from an E30 sensor.
                    The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

                      so youd probably just end up banging the sensor and losing all your oil anyway?

                        If you look at all current model BMW's, they all have the oil level sensor down on the bottom... Just stop hitting curbs and parking blocks.
