    Heater thermostat....

    WTF? Seriously?

So, we're putting Stonesam23's 2.7 stroker in ('89 325is) and getting all the heater hoses hooked up, etc.

...and we come upon the heater thermostat.

    WTFisthisshit? (Numero eighto).

Seriously, this is the only car I've ever seen this thing on. Can't find a good diagram of how this thing is to be orientated.

Looking into my dad's '90 325i 'vert (for reference) and there isn't one of these suckers, I replaced all the hoses a few months back and there never was one.

Pretty much, how does the above pic tie into the following two pics:

    Thanks bunches!

Heater t-stat were installed in some very early models to prevent the heater core from exploding. I am pretty sure that many drivers deleted the t-stat without experiencing any problem.

Ya only a few cars had that i believe. It was supposed to help the car heat up faster but I believe they were recalled or something because the by pass line would always close up.

Remove it but dont chuck it quite yet. I tried and then the heat stopped working. Plugged it back in and the heat worked fine. Thermostat and heater valve were both good, and I even swapped both with other known good parts to figure it out. I don't know why and don't care. Little bugger can stay if it makes the heat work.
