    86E to I wiring help

I have an 86e chassis with an i harness and brain etc. What color wires do i need to connect together to get the tach to work since the connectors and wire colors are different?

If your harness was from a 9/87 or later 325i/is/ic the tach and econometer signals are routed through C101, which is how the later cars are wired. Cars up to 8/87 have a connector off the engine harness near the DME connector for those signals. To make the tach work you'll have to modify the harness to extract those signals. See http://wedophones.com/BMWManualsLead.htm for the diagram for the harness you have to find the wires to pick off.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

I'm doing this exact same thing. It would be nice if there was a sticky of some sort, or someone could explain what to do in better terms. Pictures go a LONG way, some of us are visual learners!

I did the same to my car. If you search the threads around for that swap, some dude did an excellent write up. I went from 85e to 89i and it all works perfect.

found it. this is the same write up I used and its perfectly written and works great
