When the engine passes 5k and misbehaves, does the tach or econometer react?

If the tach drives towards zero, the DME is loosing timing data, loosing power, or the DME is bad. If the tach doesn't react, but the econometer dries towards zero there is a problem with the fuel system. A bad or flaky CPS, main relay, fuel pump relay, ignition switch are possibilities. Or the DME or engine harness could be bad. C191 (below the intake manifold) is known to cause problems.

A general lack of performance above 5k could be a bad WOT switch in the TPS. But that won't cause sudden "cuts".
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.
