    Issue with temp

I just had my t-belt, waterpump, t-stat and fan clutch replaced. I stopped driving the car because I wanted to get these issues fixed, and because my temp gauge will go to center, then go past the center line, almost to the red. So I had a local indy shop do all the work, and while coming home, the gauge wouldn't rest at center, but a little over, and when I would get on the freeway, the temp gauge would start to rise, then fall, but rise if I came to a stop. Well, then I went up the mountain I live on, and the temp gauge started to climb again. And this time the coolant light started to blink. I pulled over and turned it off, and opened the the cap. Some steam came out, so I am guessing it was an air bubble, but the temp is still climbing. I already called them and left a message.

Could it be one of the parts they installed (new) or something else. I looked a bit on here, and people said its either the fan clutch or the t-stat, but both of those were replaced. :???:

Maybe the shop left some air in the system and the coolant is not being read properly by the sensor unless it on an angle.

    time to bleed bleed bleed

Will have them do that. They offer a 12 month/12K mile warranty on anything they do. :)

But I just took it for a drive. It jumps to the 3/4 mark, and then when moving stays a bit past the center mark. I am used to seeing it below the center mark since my old car never did that. I am scared to drive the car for a long time, even though I know the parts were replaced with new OEM parts. Ugh.

Bleed the coolant. Test your fan clutch too. Stick a newspaper in there and see if it can shred it with ease

Fan clutch is new, but I'll test it tomorrow.

There aren't too many possibilities left here with the parts that have been replaced. Those are air in the cooling system from a bleed failure, a bad thermostat (even new parts can be bad), or air being pumped into the cooling system from a head gasket leak.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Also check upper and lower radiator hoses. Bad SI board has been known to give wacky temp reading too even though the engine temp is perfectly normal.

could be the radiator. This is where one of those cheap IR thermometers are
really useful- you can shoot the upper and lower hoses.

If the upper's hot and the lower's quite a bit cooler, the rad's ok. If the lower's
almost as hot as the upper, the rad is not shedding heat.

But I like the bleed, bleed, bleed theory myself. Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it spits
                air 5 or 6 times.

now, sometimes I just mess with people. It's more entertaining that way. george graves

So I tested the fan clutch with a newspaper and its good. I also tapped the temp gauge on a cold start and it jumped to the 2nd mark, so I am guessing it also has something to do with that. While driving and at idle it sits a little above the center mark. Going to have them bleed the system tomorrow or later this week.

never stick a newspaper into your fan, the real way to test a fan clutch is to sit on the intake manifold with the car running and piss into the fan. If you don't get wet, replace the clutch. I read that in the bentley
