    Weird battery light issue

I searched a bit but I didn't see anything too similar to what im experiencing. Also I'm at work and my desk time has been pretty limited today.

1986 325es stock as far as the engine goes. I was stuck in some Traffic yesterday and stopped for gas. When I left the gas station my battery light was on but suuuper dim. It's bright when the key is in the on position.

When I got to work I grabbed my meter to check voltages, peeked at the belt etc. idle voltage at the battery was around 14.5 v.

    Under all loads it's ~ 13.2-13.5

    Key off no loads 12.3

Starts right up, idles fine, runs ok. I've put about 70 miles on it since it happened without issue. I popped in a new voltage regulator I had and the condition hasn't changed. Any tips? Cluster issue?

    Thanks in advance!

sounds fairly normal to me. Perhaps it's time for a new voltage regulator. I wouldn't expect the voltage to drop that much because of load if the regulator was good.

sometimes the resistor that is on the board (in case the indicator bulb fails) comes loose due to cracked solder joints. about the only other suggestion is to reflow the solder around this resistor. But it's really only there as a backup.

I agree with the second part of what nando said about the solder joints. If it happens again, just tap the light and see if it goes off. My brake lining light does this, its annoying as shit.

You could also have a diode beginning to crap out. How much AC voltage do you have across the battery with the car running?

Figured I should update this. The day after the problem started I decided to grab my other new voltage regulator. The issue stayed the same. I installed the new alternator I bought for my engine build and it went away. Problem solved. *golf clap*
