    Belt Noise at Startup

I just want to confirm my suspicion: Do I need a new timing belt and tensioner if I hear a belt making noise when the engine is cold?

I'll post the last time I changed the belt as soon as it's bright out.

timing belt really won't make noise. replace at 5 years/50k, whichever comes first.

it's probably one of the accessory belts.

Thanks brah, just wanted to be sure so that I don't end my life after finding out my M20 exploded.

I'd hate to be a douche, but any suspicion on what it might be? Alternator belt? It goes away when I give throttle, and when the engine is warmed up.

Do you have power steering or airconditioning?

Those plus the alternator = 3 belts (well it is on a 325i anyway) that could be due for replacement, or need retensioning.

Got a Bentley manual? Look for v-belt tensioning.

Pull all accesory belts and start it. Only then will you hear If its the timing belt. The tensioner can make noise as its going out. As the tensioner goes, the belt can walk against the cover etc and also make noise.

Will take a look and will post a video and solution when I find out, thanks guys. Just wanted to see if it was a common and obvious issue.
