    2.7i setup questions

Getting ready to give the "i" treatment to my SETA soon - have a nearly complete collection of parts... dropped a secondhand 885 off at the machine shop yesterday. Stock SETA bottom end.

Looking for feedback on the following setup:

    - Fellow r3vver doing a part-out (sorry for your loss Dev) has a 323i euro cam that he says is slightly hotter - would this be worthwhile? Opinions on the matter seems to vary.

    - Wanna have my guy knock off a tiny bit extra while he's resurfacing the head... just to make sure it's extra flat, if nothing else. 1/2 mm seems to be tolerable, but could we do more?

    - Picked up a set of i injectors as part of a package deal, but considering Mustangs (seems more cost-effective to get 19# model III's on eBay than to send these ones off to be cleaned) so what say ye to this? Yea or nay?

    - Also have a 173 and need a chip for it as a stopgap until I can upgrade to a Miller MAF & WAR combo... what would be a good choice? I'm thinking Alpina B3, but unfortunately all the info I can find on where to get one is pretty apocryphal & dated. Yes, I have tried searching.

Just wanna end up with a squared away engine that breathes better. Of course, I have to tell my machinist about the first two things and get him the new cam before he gets the head put together. I would welcome any insight, large or small.

323i cam is not worth it, no offense to Devon. You should go to something hotter like a 272 or 284

I personally would not mill the head any more than is necessary to make it clean and flat.

19 pounders should be fine, or M50 injectors (17.5#).

I wouldn't use a chip for anything other than your specific motor; as similar as it may be to a B3 2.7, it's very different.

dont take too much off the head piston to valve and piston to head will be reduced for small amount of gain that a small bump in CR provides.

323i cam is no better than a B25, while it will measure out to larger duration at lift specs normally quoted for these cams the lift at which they are quoated are quite small so they arent a good indicator of performance poetential.

I've got an Alpina B3 chip I'll sell for $55 with shipping. Never used, went with a Miller WAR chip instead. PM if you want it.

Thanks guys, I think I'll go with a normal resurfacing... just wondered if there was an acceptable range within which things could really be tightened up. I'll stick with the stock B25 cam unless I can find a solid 272 used, but still taking a lot of stuff off of Devon's hands for sure.

Alex, are there any chips specifically for a 2.7i? Seems like lots of people just use normal B25 chips (markd, conforti, etc) so I figured the B3 tune might be at least a slightly better fit. Irish1, if I do end up going that route, I'll definitely take that thing off your hands!

EDIT: I'm aware markd makes a 2.7 stroker chip, but 10.2:1 seems a bit high for the 8.8:1 of a stock SETA...

You could ask MarkD if he has any one-off tunes for a motor like yours. If not I would still recommend a chip for your specific engine, or if neither are possible, the Alpina chip.
