Peak power is simply the ability to delivery as much fuel as needed combined with an ignition system able to deliver spark at critical timing periods. When dealing with absolute power, the ability to flow more fuel and air through the inlet is pretty much king. It doesn't matter if its EFI, carb or mechanical fuel injection. You would be talking the difference of maybe a few percent difference between them. You arent suddenly going to take a 320bhp 2L race motor, put efi on it and make 350bhp.

I gave you a couple of reasons above why they aren't used in all professional forms of motorsport anymore. You could buy a complete motec M800, PLM and harness for the cost of just rebuilding the fuel pump. One of the other main reasons for it is categories have gone to standard formulas, so everybody has the same (or similar) running gear, even to the point of locked ECU's. Bit hard to offer that same level playing field when you have a totally mechanical system controlling your fuel output.

Simple fact of the matter is, kugelfischer injection works very well and the numbers they put down from various race engines of the period are proof of that.

^ Most of what you say is true.

One thing that is not true is a single throat per cyl carb (webers, etc) making the same broad hp curve as as ITBs (mech or elec). You have to choose bottom end and midrange or peak power, you can't have both.

I love all forms of mixing fuel with air but mech injection will never come back due to the cost of tuning. You can take a motec, etc and make it work superbly on any engine where as the mech injection takes cubic dollars and time to adapt to a given engine.

What would i choose if offered an optimally tuned engine with the option of carbs, mech injection or elec injection?
1)tie for first - mechanical and carbs
      2)electric

But i'm not normal or logical regarding fuel mixing, to me it's a spiritual thing.

I didn't say anything about the powerband, I said peak power. His argument was they were never going to make as much power as EFI. I was saying, that's not exactly true, it doesn't matter much which way you go, they will have similar power outputs if they are sized and tuned correctly. :)
