    starting problems

When i try to start the car, i turn the key. it turns over and over and over, but only starts occasionally on the first turn. i turn the key back 1 and try again, it starts. everytime. why is this? occasionally it takes several pumps of the gas pedal.

is a coil going out? a fuel pump? A magical curse my old mechanic placed on the car?

I concur with the fuel pump... taking too long to prime

Wait a minute. Don't just start willy-nilly throwing new parts at it.

Each of those parts can easily be tested for proper function.

To test the fuel system, tee a gauge into the line that feeds the rail. If the check valve in the pump or the FPR is bad you will see the pressure bleed off the rail pretty quickly after the engine has been shut off. That in and of itself won't necessarily cause hard starts. If the pump & FPR is working correctly and the filter isn't clogged rail pressure will go to normal within a few turns of the engine. But a bad check valve is usually associated with a worn pump that is struggling to produce sufficient flow/pressure. The worn pump & bad check valve will cause starting problems.

There is a spec in the Bentley for the delivery rate from the FPR, which is a useful diagnostic.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

So how about you take the advice given and test the fuel pressure?

lol, matt, eventually, i will forgo the tests, and just replace both components saving me time, and money (indirectly) because time is money.

When is this happening only when it's hot? / cold?

mostly is that your fuel pump is going to die
