What kind of hoses/radiator is this?

    So I picked up JasonC's awesome e30

My buddy and I noticed a difference between the hoses and radiator on other 325i/e and mine

Here is the hose i am talking about, circled in red:

and here is a typical 325i radiator/hose combo:

Anyone know what kind of setup that is?

Also it looks like the hose balloons when the car is warmed up...im paranoid it could burst.

    What do you guys think?
Had a smooth purchase transaction with me?

yep, early model cooling system setup. bypass hose is prone to being eaten by the fan, and lower hose is prone to being eaten by the PS belt if the motor mounts are shit
I saved 15% on my Bimmer parts by switching to ...

Does the early cooling setup not have a fan shroud?

Without a shroud your fan is sucking a lot of air around the radiator, rather than through it.

I went through 2 @ of water pumps, tstats & clutch fans trying to solve a cooling problem. The $23 shroud fixed it.

...and yes, that bulging hose is at risk

if your E30 is an '88 or later, CXRacing sells an alumminum radiator for $169. You can switch everything back to the proper setup for about $250 (hoses, clamps & Shroud).

my 89 lower hose was eaten by the ps when the motor mounts went.

Just want to change that detail to all m20 e30s I think the lower hose is the same thing. when the pass side mm is seperated and the driver side one is a pivot it clamps it.

edit also, even though my upper hose is routed different I would never use a hose that blew up like that it needs to be replaced.
