    Idle surge after intake boot was replaced?

    I got my new intake boot lastnight from Blunttech. The cars old one was tapped up leaking yet the car never had an idling issue. Until I replaced it with a new one. Now my car is idle surging really high rpms. No clue what it could be due to the fact of the old one looking like shit and having cracks all over the place. The iacv was working fine with the old boot. And I have no clue why any help?

      Spray some brake fluid around it just to make sure everything tight, maybe check for power at the iacv. This really not to much that can go wrong when changing the boot.

        Sounds like either something got disconnected (ICV area) or there is a vacuum leak that may not be obvious looking at the engine bay from above. I would trace all areas that were handled during installation before assuming something is broken.

          Try resetting the ecu by disconnecting the battery

            I will do that as soon as I get off work. How long will I need to disconnect it for?

            See that's the thing it ran great with a cracked boot now it runs like a honda..

              I'm sure you already know this, but just in case.. Don't spray brake fluid, Nomansisland meant brake cleaner.
              Might be worth cleaning the ICV while you are at it.

                  use the same brake cleaner or carb cleaner to clean out the ICV.

                  I see the logic behind the reset. The ECU probably compensated for the old leaky intake boot and now that the new one is on there is too much fuel. Its worth a shot...
                  This is the reset procedure for the e34/32 but it is generally the same thing:

                  Also doube and TRIPLE check that all the hoses are connected like the CCV hose going to the valve cover and so on.

                    This may be stupid, but make sure the boot is on tight at the bottom. When I put mine back on, it felt like it was on, it looked like it was on, but there was a huge gap at the bottom. It can be difficult to slide on.

                      Did you use the old original ICV reducer hose fitting in the new intake boot? The new intake boot I received from BluntTech for an '84 528e a couple of weeks ago, did not have the ICV reducer hose fitting and the original had hairline cracks in it, causing some idle problems. I had BluntTech send me several new reducers which fixed that problem. However, the quality of the intake boot was poor, with big junks of mold material in the boot coupling areas... two big enough to create an air leak problem, until I cleaned up the areas with an X-acto knife. Take a close look at your boot and see if you have a poor mold release problem at its connections, leaving excess material that can cause the connections to leak. The intake boot I received from BluntTech had the 'BMW' logo on it, but it sure wasn't BMW quality, based on my direct experience with BMW parts, for the past 30 years.

                        So I was working on the car and found that everything is hooked up right. When I plug in the Icv the maf opens up and sucks in air. That's when the idle surges happen. And once I unplug the icv the car idles very low and runs reallh rich. So I am getting a new icv. Is there any way to check the maf to see if it is working properly?

                          Alright so I got a icv plugged it in still idle surging. Unplug it and it still idle surges. Unplugged the maf it stops idle surging and runs. But it runs like total ass. Unplugged both won't run won't start. I need help guys!

                              Check the tps and the coolant temp sensors! Tps might have got disconnected accidentaly
