    M20 starter relay issue!

    starter will not crank at all i didnt lable were anything . i just wrote starter on everything and now i am so confused

    where does this black wire ground to?

    this orange wire supplying powe to my starter relay is loose on my driver side floor. where does it connect to?


    coming out of the relay i have 2 connector that seem like they go on the small posts of the starter?
    i am so confused, i have never started this vehicle i bought it with a none running motor.
    can some please help!

      The black wire from the engine harness goes to the smaller post on the starter. This is the engine start wire from the diagnostic connector. There should be another (maybe blue) wire that connects to the same post. This is ignition start, which triggers the stater solenoid.

      Your starter relay should be near the steering column and is usually orange. I do not know what you have in your hand. It does not look like an OEM relay harness because BMW do not use black electrical tape and looks like its already seem some heat and possibly melted.

      I suggest you have an auto electrician inspect your wiring.

        The fatter of the two smaller wires goes on the bottom terminal. SKinnier one can go on the top.

        Skinnier one is unloader relay ground, and the other one is the starter signal

          thanks. Now the wire giving power to the relay where should that hook up to underneith the dash?
