Alternator upgrade?

Are there any bmw alterators that will bolt onto the m20b25 in my 89 325i that have higher output, or am I going to have to go aftermarket and spend loads of money to get better output?

I believe the 7 series alternator will fit. In my e34 M20, I used a 7 series upgraded alternator and it fit 100%. My suggestion is to inspect realoem.com and find out what other cars share your same alternator and try to find the high amperage alternator.

The PO put an E34 alternator in mine. You'll have to lengthen the wires, but the mounts and pulley line up.

Thanks guys, I'll look into the e34 and 7 series alternators. The 8ga charging wire is not sufficient for my needs either way, so thats changing no matter what.
