    slight hesitation

    89 325i, 118k on it, have a slight hesitation during acceleration from about 2-3k rpm, and sometimes when you initially depress the throttle it'll bog down until you give it more gas. just replaced the fuel tank/all fuels lines leading to tank/fuel filter, problem still exists. there's a whining sound when its running leading me to believe there's a vacuum leak, the main intake tube has some cracking/dry rot so I'm going to replace that as well as the secondary smaller tube. If that doesn't fix the hesitation/bogging, any thoughts on what it could be?

      You have already identified the problem! Vacuum leaks.

          The big metal box on your intake. It's a barn-door style, POS.
          Search on here, there are several threads about how to clean and adjust it. But fix the intake leaks first. Having a shop run a smoke test is the only for sure way to find them all.

                AFM = Air Flow Meter.

                Autotragic - R3vlimited hates E30 with automatic transmission.

                      ha, whew. I had an autotragic at one time in my life and your symptoms line up with what I had to accept as a user of said transmission.

                        found a vacuum leak coming from the rocker plugs on the side nearest the firewall. also, the iac motor seems to be running even when the motor is off but key is on, not sure if its supposed to do that. one other vacuum leak coming from the other side of the valve cover near the front of the motor can't tell if its actually coming from the valve cover or not. replaced main intake tube and cleaned maf sensor, still hesitating and bogging down when throttle is initially depressed quickly. thoughts?

                          Did you repair the leaks from the valve cover?

                            not yet, but would that really have much to do with it? its not part of the intake system really.

                              Leaks in valve cover can affect your idle big time.
