I would have to say that the head gasket is leaking in two spots. The chances of curing it without removal of the head and a surfacing cut are slim to none. And while the head is off you might as well do the valves and valve seals.

The small opening between the intake ports is the oil return passage. Be sure to use new seals on the oil return tube when the intake is reinstalled. The VR head gasket kit will have most of what you need, other than the head bolts. Use a BMW or Goetz head gasket.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Damn. Sounds like I've got some research to do.

I've messaged the PO of the engine to see if he actually rebuilt the engine or not. Presuming that he did, what would the valves/valve seals cost to do, along with a resurfacing of the head? I'm just praying its not cracked at all.

isnt the second pic a so called "pcv" from the crankcase to the intake mani, and the head has the pcv hose from the valve cover to the intake mani. I could be wrong, but I was in the same position and wondered what it was, thats all I could think of.

That's what I figured. Lucky enough I've already got a practically new timing belt, tensioner, water pump, t stat housing, t stat, coolant hoses, etc.

John do you know any good machine shops in the west island or anywhere really in Montreal?

Thanks all for the help btw, I'd be nowhere without this community

Umm... a "practically new" timing belt is the same as an old one. They are $12 without the tensioner.
