Installing Fan Shroud

So my car came into my life with no fan shroud installed. Christmas came around and brought a few Bavarian Autosport boxes, and a new fan shroud, into my life. So, now that I have this lovely square plasticky thing with a hole in it, how do I get it under the hood and serving its purpose? The shroud is all that came to me. No clips included. Do I need these clips and if so, what clips are they?

Ha ! yes this ^ you'll probably remove your fan shroud more than once.

Well now that I know what I need, how about a little bit more of the "how"...

You most likely will have to remove the radiator, then install. But if you can somehow squeeze it in there right now then more power to ya!

It can be squeezed in there. It's a bitch, but can be done.

You don't need anything but zip ties... you can squeeze it in there but not easily. Removing the fan clutch is your best bet if you have a flat wrench to do that.... I believe the fan clutch is a 32mm...

There are two tabs at the bottom of the fan shroud that slide into the frame. Once you have the fan shroud down far enough, get under the front of you car and be sure it slides into the grooves.

What this man said. I did it with the fan still on but taking it off would make it easier.

If its an 87 eta, it probably has the earlier style radiator setup. If so, the tabs on the bottom of the shroud slip into metal slots, and the top of the shroud is secured to the radiator with a metal clip on each corner.

I've only ever removed and installed the fan shroud by first taking off the fan, so I can't say whether it can be wrestled in there with the fan still attached.

I was going to say eventually that my shroud didn't look like it had any holes for rivets, only flat spots that seemed ripe for a clip. What kind of clip are they? I'd think that they'd be very similar if not the same as the grill clips.

So far, I've gathered that I need to:
a) obtain necessary clips/rivets?
b) remove fan, possibly radiator
c) slip tabs into metal slots
d) attach said components from "a"
e) work backwards from "b"
f) profit....

Did I miss anything?

You don't need to remove anything. It should just slide down in between the fan and radiator. Might need to get creative and try a few angles but I've never had to remove anything to take it in and out.

As far as attaching it, if you don't already have the clips for it, zipties are the way to go. Plus the stock clips can be a PITA sometimes.

3 of my 4 e30's have different methods to attach the shroud. If you do need the metal clips they are similar to the grill clips only MUCH BIGGER.
