I just finished refreshing my M20 and am about to begin rebuild. I'm no expert, but I used Purple Power, Simple Green, Paint Thinner, a metal scraping tool, emery cloth and unfortunately scotch brite pads. I use a pressurized garden sprayer alot. I put hot water and simple green in it and spray the shit out of things before during and after serious hand wire brush work.

that looks good , the head im going to get tanked and surfaced aswell , my blocks out of my car i just need to buy a stand , and ill clean it up so its easier for me , what kind of wire brush did you use after reading a few things, they say not to use anything that could damage the mating surface im probably going to pick up a few things in a bit wondering if u could post some pics of what you used so i know that im on track , im gonna head out and grab some things soon thanks ,

wire brush comes in a 3pk from Ace Hdwe, their stainless w/plastic handle, i used an 80 grit emery cloth for the mating surface on the block

this is one that I was using on my VC


Emery is about 1-1/2" wide, comes on a roll, you can tear off lengths

interested too see what cabriolet says about the scotchbrite :(

Alright I'm gonna go pick some things up including that brush thanks and I used scotch brite pads and a copressor air gun to clean everything I've had no problems yet

Got the brushes and some gasket remover hmm ... im stuck again .. that gasket remover shit sucks DICK! LOL. DIDNT REMOVE ANYTHING , also isnt 80 grit to much or is it something like a cloth ? im lost LOL!

not clear what you are lost about.. the Emery cloth? Ever heard of google?

it's essentially a tough cloth type material with the grit on it, mostly used for hand metal work. I use it on all sorts of stuff. Definitely gets rid of rusty metal spots, like in the trunk. In this case it gets the old gasket, carbon, rust ans anything else of the mating surface.

You'll get a bit more help if you're a bit more clear on what you're after.

nah it looked like frikin sand paper off google , were can i pick some up from ? i live in calgary so it would have to be some shops here i guess ,i asked a machine shop what they used he said a wire buffer is what they use , but i think that would screw some things up , but i think im gonna get the emery cloth and some brake clean ... gasket remover it shit even let it sit ! , and it froze < due to cold weather
