84' 325e, has a slight whining/squeal sound from front of engine. I was thinking its possible a v belt is to tight, (just replaced them). I also just replaced the timing belt, tensioner, and water pump. While inside I noted the bigger toothed pulley had a little resistance when turning, it wasn't chunky or anything tho. (Sorry for the ignorant term..lol I don't know what it's called) The pulley with the arrow. Just curious should it have any resistance?

Mine does that now, didn't use to. Replaced the timing belt, tensioner, water pump all other belts still does it. Sounds kinda like a blower whistle but much quieter, it might be how it all sounds. After spending some time and money on it i just decided to leave it. I always change my timing stuff every fall, this time I'll try a different brand and see. I'll let you know if it changes.sigpic

That gear appears to be the long recalled stamped steel gear which is prone to self=destruction. I suspect your cam gear may be the same in which case both should be replaced with sintered gears.Seat Shocks....I have passed the baton to John Christy from Ninestitch.
