I just picked up a 87 325i Car runs and idles great, It does have a hard time starting when hot, I did visual checks to the intake boot and hose connections and everything looks good. Dirty AFM? smells rich after starting.

Have a smoke test run to look for intake leaks.The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Intake leaks are #1 as Jim Levie reminds us all early (in relevant threads) and often. Get that sorted before you start throwing parts at it.
