    Vacuum Leak From Here...?

    Hey guys,

    So my evening black n' mild told me I have a vacuum leak from the area pictured below. Why would BMW put metal-on-metal and expect it to be airtight?

    Unless there is a more "professional" fix, I'm busting out the RTV tomorrow. Any thoughts?

    JB weld and be done. prep surfaces and apply JB, insert w/ some rotation . Will usually leave a nice bead around the outer edge.Just make sure the orientation is correct for the ICV valve hose. GL

      RTV won't last, but JBweld will. Follow 36brua's instructions and allow the epoxy to cure for at least 12 hours in +60F temps (longer if colder) before starting the engine.
      The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

            Very interesting. I know plenty of people who half-ass their repairs by using JB Weld, but it certainly makes sense here. There's no need to ever take that metal elbow out, I wonder why BMW made it two pieces. After it gets glued, pulling off that ~3 inch hose will still be perfectly doable. JB Weld it is.

            If it were threaded I would definitely consider that route as I already have some handy. It looks like there's a light knurl instead which isn't going to hold onto tape very well.

            Sweet, I didn't even need any kind of pump to find it. I saw you told DaButt to reset the ECU after you fix an air leak, d'you think it would still be worth doing in my case? My idle is damn near perfect, but I always like perfect-er.

              Finally got around to fixing this leak. No change in idle quality, but coupled with a new coolant temp sensor, she fires up quicker and pulls harder at every RPM. I was NOT expecting more zip from a new sensor, but I'll take it.
