Swapping cam with motor in the car?

Has anyone ever done this? Was it successful?
I just replaced the head gasket and would rather no pull the head again.
This is my race car, so I cam drill the firewall and easily tap the rocker shafts and cams out through the radiator opening.

Im just wondering if anyone has tried this and how it went?

It can be done, but for the cost of a gasket and new head bolts I'd remove the head.
The car makes it possible, but the driver makes it happen.

Yeah, its not so much the cost as it is how many times the head has been off and on and re-torqued.

pretty commonly done in the UK from what i hear and iirc they might unbolt an engine mount or two, but not something i would do myself

I can't see it being all that hard. I have rebuilt a cylinder head off the car I think all you need is a way to turn the engine which can easily be done by putting it in 5th gear jacking up the rear and spinning the tire

The way youd do this is to remove the radiator, hood, and unbolt the engine mounts. Then you'd jack up the engine as high as possible hoping to clear the front. I've never done it just what i've read.
