    Before and after cam #'s?

Forgive me for making just another variation of this countless number regrinded cam threads, however, I just can't seem to find what I'm looking for. I am in the process of building an SETA stroker and while I have the head off I wouldn't mind going with a cam. A regrind doesn't seem like a bad idea (simply because of the price) however I don't see how it would work. I understand that obviously it is the base circle that is grinded down but... It is still a stock cam. I have heard people say they run a regrinded cam without over sized eccentrics OR lash caps without any issues but I don't understand how that can increase the lift if no material is being added to the cam but instead only being taken away. It just isn't clicking in my head. I guess my question is: does anyone have before and after numbers? I have searched around and yet to find any. I wouldn't mind an aggressive idle, but if performance isn't changed then I don't plan to go through the hassle.

Simple, grinding from the base increases distance towards the center.

stock eccentrics still have a fair bit of adjustment so can still regrind the cam some and use stock eccentrics but less than the oversize eccentrics. i'm guessing people just trust what they are given so might be dodgey stuff out there too.

As has already been said, lift and duration are increased by grinding away the base circle of the cam. The lobe doesn't typically have material added to it, but the non-lobe part (base circle) is ground away making the difference between highest part of the lobe and the lowest part of the base circle a greater distance.

As for the oversize eccentrics... Diggers right, depending on how much material was removed and where your valve seats are at you might not need oversize eccentrics. This varies on a cam to cam head to head basis, there is no cut-and-dry formula.

No update on that other thread huh?

I think I am just going to go without the cam. Port the head, headers and exhaust, #19 injectors with a chip to tie it all together should do nice.
