A chip will bring problems that weren't apparent before to light I went through that on my eta before I did the head swap to a 2.7i setup -
Well noted il keep an eye on it, keep my glove box off to check occasionally. But no issues as of yetLeave a comment:

Probably a bad time to make a first post but i had a chip from them. Lured in by the shiney website.
Car is a 1986 325E
Didnt notice much of a power difference. Did notice a terrible surging during part throttle acceleration. Unplugging the o2 sensor cured it at the expense of fuel mileage.
Within 2 weeks the car would randomly die sometimes it would start back up sometimes you it needed to sit around a bit. This got worse and worse with the car coming home on a trailer twice. The last time it would start and run for a second or 2 before dying. During trouble shooting i noticed the ecu was very hot. On a hunch i swapped the stock chip back in and all was well. Plugged the o2 sensor back in even with no issues.
Just food for thought.Leave a comment:

2.7i
hey sorry yea i got the swap together and am using the stage 2 euro tuner chip on a 525 ecu tuned to stock injectors (i had cleaned and flowed already so whatever). i havent compared it to stock chip but i am very happy with the performance of it currently. plus the idle is super smooth, i expected pretty rough idle out of the lower compression motor but its pretty great. i guess i can try the stock chip and see how it works compared but i wont be able to post any dyno numbers or results.Leave a comment:

Sweet and just an update I just ordered a 2.7i chip from euro tuner stage 2 so I'll let you all know how they are in a few weeks if the swap goes well.Leave a comment:

That thread is getting pretty diluted with hearsay and guesses. If only there were a tread of only 2.7i engine knowledge and not whether it's a good idea or pros and cons/ people trashing it or recommending m50 or 2.5s. But if you feel like sifting through it, like I did, try and find people who have done it. To save you the hassle iirc ecu can be any m20b25 ecu running motronic 1.1-1.3 to include 153 173 even 525 ecus. (Unless someone knows I'm wrong first hand?)Leave a comment:

I am using this thread as my guide for this project. It has all of the info you could possibly need regarding the swap:

What is the ecu that the 87 325e model has and what do you need to switch it to for it to run the 325I head and supporting partsLeave a comment:

Oh well if I get my 2.7i together before you I'll do a little test of stock chip vs this chip, as I'm probably going to buy one. Why not for that price right?Leave a comment:

Car is still at painters.
I have worked with this guy before, and he does great work, but since it isn't his main job, he works on the car when he can. He could call me up and tell me its done tomorrow, or it could be 2 more months. Either way, I can't complain, because I know I am getting quality work done for a great price. There has also been an issue with project creep, as I added a plastic bumper conversion and late model rear valance to the original job.
I can't wait to get this car back together though. The wait is killing me!Leave a comment:
